In the middle of the pandemic, harvest has been possible thanks to joint efforts
- In the last 12 months, Colombian coffee production exceeds 14.2 million bags.
- In June, coffee exports rose slightly.
Bogotá, July 3, 2020 (FNC Press Office) – Registered production ofColombian coffee in Junewas one million 362,000 bags, 12% up from the 1.2 million bags registered in the same month of 2019.
With this figure, the country exceeded 14.2 million bags of the best mild coffee in the world in the last 12 months compared to the 13.7 million bags a year earlier, a 4% increase.
So far this coffee year (October 2019 – June 2020), production also rose 4% to 10.7 million bags over the 10.3 million bags produced in the same period previous.
YTD coffee production fell 8% to close at over 6.1 million bags versus almost 6.7 million bags a year earlier.
“In the middle of the pandemic, and thanks to great joint work between producers and authorities to care for health, coffee is still the driving force of the economy in the vast majority of Colombia’s municipalities, and, in many cases, the only livelihood of Colombian families,” said Roberto Vélez, the CEO of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC).
Coffee exports rise lightly in June
In the sixth month of the year Colombian coffee exports rose 1% to one million 123,000 bags of 60 kg compared to one million 110,000 bags exported in June 2019.
In the last 12 months, coffee exports fell 4% to almost 12.9 million bags compared to over 13.3 million bags exported a year earlier.
So far this coffee year, exports exceeded 9.5 million bags, down 6% from the 10.1 million bags sold abroad in the same period previous.
YTD coffee exports fell 12% to almost 5.8 million bags from the almost 6.6 million bags exported in the first half of 2019.
