Cargo flow to ports has been normalizing

  • Thanks to great logistical work, the indicator recovered much of the ground lost the previous month as a result of blockades.

Bogotá, July 7, 2021 (FNC Press Office) – In June, Colombian coffee exports recovered much of the ground lost due to blockades and fell just 11% to 986,000 bags (60-kg) of green coffee from the 1.1 million bags exported in the same month of 2020.

“Although coffee exports have not yet been brought up to date, it is worth highlighting the important logistical work done to reach the current level, after the main port of Colombia, Buenaventura—where over 60% of the country’s coffee is sent abroad—lasted over 40 days blocked,” the FNC CEO, Roberto Vélez, said.

So far this year, coffee exports grew 2% to over 5.8 million 60-kg bags from the over 5.7 million bags exported in the first half of 2020.

In the last 12 months, coffee exports fell 2% to 12.6 million 60-kg bags from the over 12.8 million bags exported a year earlier, and so far this coffee year they remained practically unchanged.

Regarding monthly registered production (as for May), given that it is calculated based on demand, the figure is not published for June because it would not reflect actual production, given the substantial alterations in the variables, also on the way to normalization.
