Buencafé Liofilizado de Colombia, at the forefront of eco packaging with innovative avocado seed lids

Chinchiná, Caldas, August 9, 2022. Buencafé Liofilizado de Colombia presents its prototype lids, for coffee jars, made with avocado seed, a biodegradable material that ratifies the company’s commitment to sustainable packaging and lower use of plastic.
Avocado seed lids are made with bio-based resin, a formula that reduces the environmental footprint, patented in Mexico by the company Biofase.
Each lid contains up to 60% of this organic biomass. The material is biodegradable and its decomposition occurs in the first two years, versus the about 500 years that a conventional plastic would take.
A single dehydrated and processed avocado seed is estimated to allow making two to three lids. This innovative solution, currently in a pilot stage at Buencafé, is pioneering in the country and will be the first step for their industrial scale production.
The prototype is the result of Buencafé’s work with strategic allies of its chain, Riduco and Biofase Colombia, seeking to join sustainable proposals to produce ecological packaging.
“This initiative shows how innovation at Buencafé is at the service of sustainability to conserve a vital planet,” Cristina Madriñán, director general of Buencafé, said.
