Colombian coffee production closed 2019 at 14.8 million bags

• International markets continue demanding high-quality coffee; a good indicator is the premium or differential recognized to Colombian coffee, of 26.7 cents per pound on average in the last yeaColombia, the largest producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, will continue working to maintain a young and productive coffee farming and will deepen its efforts to improve quality, to continue conquering high-value niches and thus improve the profitability of coffee production.
• At the end of 2019, the value of the coffee crop was 7.2 trillion pesos ($2.2 billion), 15.8% up from the 6.2 trillion pesos ($1.9 billion) in 2018, resources that directly boost the economy of the more than 600 coffee-producing municipalities in the country.

Bogotá, January 14, 2020 (FNC Press Office) – Colombian coffee production closed 2019 at 14.8 million 60-kg bags, 9% more than at the end of 2018, a production volume not registered in over 25 years (16.1 million bags in 1992).

This important growth is the result of the current state of Colombian coffee growing, which today features the best indicators in its history: resistant varieties in 83% of coffee plantations, average age of 6.6 years, average density of 5,243 trees/ ha, and productivity of 21.4 bags/ha.

In December, coffee production grew 31% to 1.7 million bags from 1.3 million green coffee bags in 2018.

So far this coffee year (October-December 2019), production rose 24% to 4.6 million bags from the 3.7 million bags produced in the same previous period.
