The regional Castillo® varieties are the result of selection of the components (lines) of yields higher than the Colombia variety’s in certain places. Its recommendable region depends on weather and soil similarities (also called ecotopes) and the place where it was compared to adjacent areas. Seven component mixtures have been released for the same number of agroclimatic zones. Each regional mixture or variety has been given the name of the experimental sub-station where it was selected. The following regional Castillo® varieties are currently available: Naranjal, Paraguaicito, Santa Bárbara, Pueblo Bello, El Rosario, La Trinidad and El Tambo.
