Colombian coffee production closes 2021 at 12.6 million bags

Due to impacts of the so-called national strike and weather conditions

Bogotá, January 12, 2022 (FNC Press Office) – In 2021, Colombia, the world’s largest producer of mild washed Arabica coffee, recorded a production of 12.6 million 60-kg bags of green coffee, down 9% from the 2020 harvest of 13.9 million bags.

This result is explained by the negative impacts of roadblocks in the second quarter of the year and of weather conditions in some coffee regions, which reduced production.

In December, coffee production reached 1.4 million bags, down 21% from the 1.7 million bags recorded in the same month of 2021.

And so far this coffee year (October–December 2021), production fell 19% to 3.5 million bags from the over 4.3 million bags recorded in the same previous period.

Coffee exports fall 1% in 2021

At the end of 2021, Colombian coffee exports fell 1% to over 12.4 million 60-kg bags of green coffee from the 12.5 million bags exported in 2020.

Coffee exports in December fell 10% to 1.2 million bags compared to 1.3 million bags exported in December 2021.

And in the coffee year (October-December 2021), coffee exports reached 3.3 million 60-kg bags, down 9% from the 3.6 million bags exported in the same previous period.
