The crop has been collected without major setbacks despite the pandemic

  • Coordinated work of the coffee institutions and with authorities has allowed maintaining production and marketing.
  • Exports registered slight increase (1%) compared to July 2019.

Bogotá, August 5, 2020 (FNC Press Office) – Despite the current pandemic, registered coffee production in Colombia, the world’s largest producer of washed mild Arabica, fell slightly, 1%, in July from the previous year and grew 2% in the last 12 months.

In the seventh month of the year, registered production was 1 million 310,000 bags of 60 kg, a similar figure to the million 317,000 bags produced in July 2019; and in the last 12 months the production exceeded 14.2 million bags, up 2% from the almost 14 million bags produced in the same previous period.

So far this year, production reaches 7.5 million bags, 7% less compared to the almost 8 million bags produced between January and July 2019.

And so far this coffee year (October 2019-July 2020), production exceeds 12 million bags, 3% more than the almost 11.7 million bags produced in the same previous period.

In this second half of the year, Colombian coffee growers expect to harvest over 7.5 million 60-kg bags of green coffee (almost 55% of annual volume).

Thanks to the production volume estimated to be collected in 2020, the annual crop value would exceed COP 9 billion, a historical figure which is due not only to the peso-dollar exchange rate and the international price, but also to the high productivity that Colombian coffee farming has achieved in recent years.

Exports increase slightly in July

With one million 133,000 bags of 60 kg, Colombian coffee exports in July registered a slight increase of 1% compared to the one million 123,000 bags exported in July 2019.

As a result of restrictions at the beginning of the pandemic, so far this year exports reached almost 6.9 million 60-kg bags, 11% less compared to the almost 7.7 million bags exported between January and July 2019.

In the last 12 months, coffee exports exceeded 12.8 million 60-kg bags, down 4% from almost 13.4 million bags exported a year earlier.

And so far this coffee year, coffee exports exceed 10.6 million bags, 6% less than the almost 11.3 million bags exported in the same previous period.
