As a result of the FNC’s efforts and coffee growers’ direct requests

Colombian State offices will now buy 100% Colombian coffee

  • This important announcement is in line with the work of the FNC to promote domestic consumption of high-quality coffee as a way to increase demand and profitability of Colombian coffee growers.
Bogotá, February 24, 2020 (FNC Press Office) – As a way of increasing domestic coffee consumption, stimulating demand and improving producers’ income, from this year on, Colombian State offices will buy only 100% Colombian coffee.
This important announcement was made today at the end of a meeting between the CEO of the Colombian Coffee Growers Federation (FNC), Roberto Vélez, and the Director of the Colombia Compra Eficiente (Colombia Buys Efficiently) agency, José O’Meara.
Both had been working on consolidating a partnership for the benefit of the country’s coffee growers and supporting the promotion of domestic consumption of high-quality coffee, as part of the commitments made by President Iván Duque during the last National Coffee Growers Congress.
Within the Framework State Contracting Agreement, it was established that from 2020 on the State suppliers’ proposals will ensure that coffee is 100% Colombian.
The criteria for evaluating the offers of coffee to be acquired by the State agencies privilege the denomination of origin Café de Colombia (which guarantees the Colombian origin of the bean), as well as coffee offered by producers registered in the Victims Unit or in the Agency for Reincorporation and Normalization (RNA).
Another important actor in this process is the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Tourism, through the Productive Colombia branch, which worked hand in hand with the FNC to meet this request of coffee growers and continue opening up spaces for Colombian coffee in the country.
This important announcement is in line with the work that the FNC has been doing to promote domestic consumption of high-quality coffee produced by Colombian coffee growers, as a way to stimulate demand and increase their profitability.
